This stone is a bit harder than alabaster but softer than marble! (Marble is rated 6 on the Mohs scale, alabaster is 2, this new stone is 4.5) Although it may require a little more effort to carve, it is well worth your time because the resulting sculpture will be truly extraordinary. |

Because this is a calcite, it is composed of tightly bundled crystals and depending upon the direction in which it is carved, you may have an unusual honeycomb pattern or a beautiful marbleized effect... or even a pineapple design.
